Nissan Altima

 History of the Altima

The Nissan Altima, formerly referred to as the Nissan Stanza, came into production in 1992 as the 1993 year model and was added to a lineup of two existing mid-size sedans. From 1993 to 2004, every Nissan Altima was produced in Smyrna, Tennessee until increasing demand for the vehicle inspired the company to open another production plant in Canton, Mississippi. To this day, the Altima is still being produced at both plants in order to keep up with customer demands.

 Appearance Over Time

When the Altima was first unveiled in 1992, it boasted the "Altima" logo on the lid of the trunk and had 15-inch wheels. The interior of the vehicle provided power windows, a retracting antenna, a digital head-up display, and a digital clock on the dash. Moving on to the second and third generations, from 1998 to 2006, not much was changed in terms of physical appearance. However, the interior became embellished with an instrument panel, and, after 2002, a DVD-based navigation system.

In 2007, the Altima started making the changes that we recognize today with the newer models. Bluetooth capability was integrated into the fourth-generation vehicle, and a backup camera became prevalent as well. The exterior of the Altima also became noticeably rounder. Today, and since 2013, The Altima has advanced technology features inside of the cab, and looks sporty and elegant with the coke-bottle styling of the fifth and newest generation.

 Performance Updates

The Nissan Altima was first launched with a 150 horsepower inline-4 Nissan KA engine paired with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. With the second generation came a 5 horsepower increase. The third generation once again amped it its horsepower to 260. Nissan changed the Altima's engine in the fourth generation model to a larger 3.5 liter V-6 with a horsepower of 270. The most recent model boasts a V-6 engine as well but has gotten a boost in horsepower, up to 275, and better fuel economy.

 All Signs Point To Altima

Since 1992, the Nissan Altima has been in high demand, and with new upgrades to the current model anticipated, that is not likely to change soon. If you are interested in learning more about the Altima or taking one for a test drive, contact Atlanta Luxury Motors today.
